What Are Your Reasons and Excuses?

Did you know that the 2 main factors people still smoke are because of their
reasons and excuses?
So we are going to handle your reasons and excuses right now
and then put them aside, OK?  Great.

Stress

The biggest excuse that most people use is probably that they smoke due to stress.  Usually the stress of their work, family, kids and life.  Stress is an excuse.
One of my friends used to smoke and they had a very intense job and they used to smoke because they said it was because of their stressful job.
And so I asked them, "Do you smoke on the weekends when you are not at work?"
They said yes.  I asked them, "Do you smoke when you are away on holidays or doing something you enjoy?"  They said yes.
So I said, "So if you smoke on holidays, on weekends and when you are doing things you enjoy, then it's not because of stress then is it?  Because you're not at work during these times are you?"
They smoked the same amount of cigarettes regardless of the situation.  All it was, was an excuse.

To Relax

Many people, some friends included, have said to me that smoking helps them relax.  Now if you know anything at all about the toxins and nicotine loaded in each cigarette, you would know that nicotine is actually a stimulant, like caffeine.
When you inhale the toxin it goes straight into your bloodstream including your heart and your heart sees that as a poison and wants to get rid of it.
Inhaling nicotine actually increases your heart rate by about 12 beats a minute.
This is why you can feel dizzy or lightheaded.
As well as that, your stomach actually produces extra stomach acid of about 1/2 cup of extra acid per 2 packs of cigarettes!
Do you now think your body is in a state of relaxation?
It's impossible for you to smoke and physiologically relax.  It's just another excuse.

Willpower

You know that if you didn't have willpower, you would not get out of bed, clean your teeth, get dressed, go to the gym etc.
You would not do anything.  Willpower allows you to do the dozens of things each day that you do, maybe even if you don't want to!
So, you actually have lots of willpower.  The question is, are you going to use it to quit cigarettes?  Under the right circumstances, you could quit simply by willpower alone. Many people have.  So, as your reading this right now, having no willpower is just another.....

Weight Gain

Have you ever seen that dried, smoked beef jerky at the supermarkets?  How much water do you think is in that meat?  Not much at all right?
So, what do you think is happening to your body while you smoke cigarettes?
That's right.  You are dehydrating your body, robbing it of all the water it needs to function efficiently.  Look at the face of someone who has smoked for years compared with a non-smoker... notice their skin quality.

When you become a non-smoker, your body is going to naturally want to re-hydrate the cells that have been deyhdrated over time.  What this means is that your cells become plumper and denser and therefore weighing slightly more than when they were dehydrated.
Remember this is water your body needs to function- the body is made up of about 80% water.

Some people also worry about craving sweet foods and therefore gain weight.  This is because cigarettes hold between 8-18% sugar in the tobacco!
When the tobacco is 'cured' it is soaked in sugar water and then dehydrated.
This is why some people's hands shake when they go without a cigarette-it's called hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).  Now, I can't tell you what to eat, but you could always replace this with fruit.
During your Quit Cigarettes in 60 Minute session, we replace the old, yet powerful habit of smoking, with new, healthy habits- habits that support your health and not work against you.

Pleasure

Now seriously, how many cigarettes a day that you smoke do you actually enjoy?
Maybe 4-5?  Well, it takes about 4 minutes to smoke a cigarette, so that's about 16 minutes of enjoyment.

Now of course, it's decreasing your health and vitality, giving you shortness of breath, making you cough, smelling like an ashtray and costing you thousands of dollars each year- but hey, what does that matter when you are getting 16 mins a day of pleasure ?!

Is it worth it?
